Rhode Island Highway Patrol Request and Guidelines

The Rhode Island Highway Patrol follows a specific report number format for its accident reports. As an example, the report requested below includes the following: the two-digit year (07), state abbreviation (RI), station (X4), and report number (1661) followed by "AC" indicating the report is an accident report (for instance: 07-RIX41661AC). If you do not have the report number, provide as much information as is available on your report request, including involved parties, vehicle information (VIN, plate/tag, make, model, year), or information on your insured party (driver's license number, date of birth, Social Security number). Including as much information as you have available will assist the records department at the police agency locate the report you need.

***Carrier Discovery - Helpful Hints***

Helpful Hints for using OrderPointŪ to order Carrier Discovery

OrderPoint is a Web-based application that allows adjustors to order police, fire and other reports via the Internet. One such report offered through OrderPoint is Carrier Discovery.

Carrier Discovery provides policy data on private passenger auto policies through a name and address or VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) search. When deployed at First Notice of Loss, Carrier Discovery can assist with call center scripting and in making the adjustment process more informed and efficient throughout the life of the claim. From a subrogation standpoint, Carrier Discovery can provide significant benefit by identifying the insurance carrier of an at-fault party in what may have originally been opened as an uninsured motorist claim.

General Hints

  • Data accuracy is paramount to receiving the best possible results.
  • If you have a plate/tag number, you can develop a VIN and/or name and address using our VCS search capability on OrderPoint.

VIN Searches

  • VINs should be 17 characters.
  • VINs should never have the letters I,O or Q in them.
  • If you are unsuccessful with the VIN search and you have name/address information, you may want to run an additional search using this information.

Name/Address Searches

  • Apartment number is a separate field from street - be sure to include in the proper location.
  • Company names are not searchable.
  • Rural routes and P.O. boxes are searchable - search this information using street.
  • Nicknames may return a positive result; however, proper legal names are highly recommended.
  • Hyphenated names are searchable.
